Craig Alanson started the series with the news that the merry band of pirates took the duty of saving the earth. They were not heroes previously but their fate put them in such a situation that they had nothing to do except save the earth. Then slowly they started liking their duty and their hate for the aliens increased.

In times of need, this group kept things going for the human race. They have saved the earth many times till the present day when the ninth part begins but the bigger danger is approaching and they might not be able to handle the situation on this occasion. The aliens are coming with full force and they cannot be stopped because the human ships lack the firepower.

At first, the band of pirates thinks that they should try to save a few thousand people with the help of their ship so that they can find a proper home for them later on. This was the best possible idea in the alarming situation but the heroes have another thing in mind i.e fight back even when it is not possible. R.C. Bray narrates the thoughts of the heroes aggressively here because they have finally decided to fight back.

Even when they know that they cannot win, they are still in a mood to fight back just like we saw them in SpecOps and Convergence. They are going to show the enemy what they are made of from the inside. Even if they lose, the mighty enemy will not be able to forget the resistance that the human race showed while going down in the fight.
