The Thirteenth Tale

The Thirteenth Tale Audiobook

Stories of the past used to be rich with events that could penetrate the mind quite easily. Finding such stories is not easy these days because the authors are not creating twisty plots in the current era. Diane Setterfield does not allow such thoughts to come into the mind of the listener because the stories of the author are linked with the Gothic style.

Writing about two women with the same kind of past was the aim of the author in this novel. In the beginning, it is Vida Winter who tells the audience about her art of storytelling. The woman became famous within no time and her stories were liked by the young and the adult at the same time.

When she grew old she wanted to write a biography because she hasn’t told anyone about her past. For her fans, the past has always remained a mystery so she calls Margaret Lea for the job. This young author has some issues of her own that she does not want to discuss and when Winter starts telling her story with a ghost involved, Margaret thinks that the two are connected in some way. Bianca Amato and Jill Tanner are the voices of these two characters in the novel.

The story does not go up and down once it starts and it makes us ponder about Once Upon a River at some stages. The author has never written two stories with the same kind of plot so we can say that the pattern is similar to stories like Bellman & Black which have been held dear by the fans. This is the struggle of two women who are looking for peace and want a way out in life.
