The Old Man and the Sea

The Old Man and the Sea Audiobook

Ernest Hemingway is not an ordinary American writer rather he is like a demigod in the field. At his time he produced novels and short stories which are treated as legends even in the world of today. The Sun Also Rises and For Whom the Bell Tolls are a few of the classics which the author produced in his time. This book is about an old fisherman whose luck has stopped supporting him and the people of the place have started calling him an unlucky man.

The boy who used to be with him during fishing left him because the parents of the boy wanted him to serve other fishermen who were able to bring fish to the shore. The boy still possesses a love for the old man so every now and then he visits the house of the old man and provides him with food and other things of daily use.

Although the old man hadn’t been able to catch fish for more than eight days he is hopeful to catch a big one eventually. This shows that he is not a pessimist and he wants to die like a champion. He remembers the arm wrestling that he used to participate in when he was young and this is done because he wanted to feel the power of his youth once again.

Instead of thinking about the negativities in life, the old man thinks about all the positive items in order to give himself hope for the future. He goes alone to the deep sea and finally catches a big fish which is then attacked by sharks on the way to the shore. Still, the old man fights and brings back the structure of the big fish to prove his skill to the people who thought that he was good for nothing.
