The Lost Fleet: Dauntless

The Lost Fleet: Dauntless is a science fiction and fantasy novel. It is the first chapter in the Lost Fleet novel series which is beautifully written by Jack Campbell. He is an American writer of military science fiction and fantasy novels. He is a retired US Navy officer and gathered all his experience to produce excellent military fiction writing. Invincible: The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier, Book 2 is a highly recommended novel which Jack Campbell has written. He has also done quite well in his The Lost Fleet: Valiant novel.

The audio narration of this novel is done by Christian Rummel and Jack Campbell himself. The performance was excellently delivered where the majority of the characters could be heard with distinct voices in an American accent.

The Alliance was battling with the Syndics for almost a century and they were losing quite badly in it. The fleet then got crippled and it was stranded in the enemy vicinity. The only hope left there was the man who came out of a long hibernation that spanned for a century. He was heroically idolized for what he was.

Captain John’s legendary exploits were known well to almost every school-going child. He was presumed dead. But after a century, Captain Hoh made a miraculous return from hibernation. He took command of the Alliance fleet reluctantly.

He was appalled by all of the hero worship around him. He was not someone who would look to do his duty. He knew pretty well that getting the stolen Syndic hypernet key with full safety would be the only big chance of Alliance for winning the war. But to achieve that, Captain John would have to live up to the heroics of ‘Black Jack’ legend.

The writer could have done slightly better with the sensory descriptions. The characters were well written and nicely developed. The awesome performance made this book a complete package for science fiction novel lovers.
