The Handmaid’s Tale: Special Edition

The Handmaid’s Tale Special Edition is a dystopian women’s fiction novel. It is written by Margaret Atwood and the essay by Valerie Martin. She is a Canadian novelist, essayist, literary critic, environmental activist, teacher, and inventor. My Evil Mother is another superb novel by Margaret Atwood and so is Oryx and Crake.

The audio narration of this book is done by Claire Danes, Tim Gerard Reynolds, Margaret Atwood, and the full cast. Danes particularly have a very calm and soothing voice that suited the protagonist perfectly.

After a violent coup in the USA and overthrowing the Constitution and ushering in a new government regime, the Republic of Gilead imposed certain types of subservient roles on all women. Offred was a Handmaid who was given the task of the sole role of protection within the childless house of the mysterious commander and his quite bitter wife. The handmaid could remember a time when she had a job and was living with her husband and beautiful daughter. But then she lost everything all of a sudden, and even her name. Despite all the danger, Offred learned to navigate right through the different intimate secrets of all those who were controlling her every move while risking her own life for just the glimpses of her freedom. She recorded her version of the story for all future listeners.

The Handmaid’s tale: Special Edition tells a great story that is also packed with an immensely powerful message along with adept characterization. Whether you are a keen follower of the original novel or just recently discovered this gem, this book guarantees to impress, shock, and satisfy you.
