The Black Prism

Not everyone can become a Prism as for this one title a person has to devote himself completely. To become the all-powerful being you need to sacrifice something equal to it. Gavin Guile has done exactly that and this has been the reason of his isolation in domestic life. He has no wife and children because throughout he has concentrated on becoming the Prism. Being the emperor and the high priest at the same time has made him the man who is like a demigod on the land.

Now at this point in life, he has realized one terrible thing i.e nothing remains in the world forever. Soon there would come a time when he will lose control over everything including his life. At this point Gavin thinks that he has made a mistake because he can calculate his life span even which is exactly five years from the current day. A lot still remains which he wishes to do but there is nothing he can do against the cruel hand of fate.

Between all of this his ears hear the news that he has been blessed with a son. The son is not present close to him but he can feel that finally he can enjoy something which he hasn’t felt in life. With this good vibe there also comes a threat i.e he cannot tell anyone about this otherwise his supreme control will collapse.

Brent Weeks first present Gavin as a strong guy but close to his death, the man is surrounded by fears.  The Broken Eye and The Blood Mirror were straightforward stories that separates them from this which has emotions and a deep background narrated by Simon Vance. The strongest man in the world finally reveals his weakness in front of the audience which means that he is going down for sure.
