Smoke and Summons

The book is loaded with monsters that can haunt those with weak minds. We have heard about humans getting super-strength as a result of some magic but this is dreadful because Sandis’ master is using her body as a human vessel that can host a spirit in it. Sandis is not the only one with this ability but she is the only one who can summon the most powerful monster thus she is like a weapon for her master.

Her master wants to keep her forever but she knows that she cannot keep up with the thing. Her body might not be able to bear this kind of torment for a long time. While on the run and hiding from her master, Sandis finds a friend when she wasn’t expecting it at all. The one who is ready to help her is a thief and he has a rare device in his hands.

The device helps him to act as an immortal being for one minute every day. Rone is ready to help Sandis but her master has sent strange creatures to track her down. Fighting against monsters is something that Rone has never done before so he gets a shocker of a lifetime. Charlie N. Holmberg is the writer for this tale which is scarier than The Paper Magician and Spellbreaker.

Sandis is finally forced to use her powers against her master because she has to free herself or die trying. Rone too develops an emotional contact with the girl which he thought he would never develop in life. Scott Merriman and Lauren Ezzo have narrated male and female characters separately which makes the impact of the narration quite effective.
