Debut by Dantiel W. Moniz is superb because the author tried hard the creation this novel. The author wanted this novel to look real that’s why the author has not tried to add any kind of superhero in the story. The characters are genuine because they have flaws of their own which result in their downfall.
Men and women in this novel show the dark side of their personalities which is usually not detected. Machelle Williams is the narrator of How to Write a Mystery and Godly Dating 101 as well still it was difficult for him to narrate such an intense story. There are several characters in the story and each character has its own issues. Firstly the teenage girl tells us about her issues because of which she is not feeling relaxed in society.
Then there is a woman who has suffered from a miscarriage and she is unable to forget her daughter who is not with her anymore. Every now and then, when the woman tries to go to sleep she is haunted by the body parts of her little child whom she had lost during the miscarriage.
Then there is a teenager who thinks that church is not the place for him and this attitude has made his family members think that he is possessed by the devil now. So they have stranded him completely and they are not thinking about him anymore. Lastly, there are two more teenagers who have recently lost their father and they are bringing his ash to their hometown. So all these characters gather at a certain place together at the climax and the author has dealt with their characters properly.
