Life was not the same for David right from the start and he has talked about this stuff a number of times. Managing to write books like Happy-Go-Lucky and When You Are Engulfed in Flames was not an easy thing when a person is so disturbed mentally.

Every step which David took in life was towards positivity and he knew that one day he would be able to cure the problems in his life if he starts dealing with them one by one. This collection of essays again talks about different things which he dealt with in his life. David’s life was not normal by any means because he was facing hellish problems.

To begin with, it is the speech therapy classes that haunted him greatly. He spent his entire childhood in getting speech therapy classes because he had a girlish pitch. Then there were the guitar lessons that he wanted to run away from. It was like entering the domain of hell when David started the guitar lessons.

He was compelled to learn all that when he wasn’t interested in any of that in the least. He came to France with high dreams in his mind and he thought that he would be able to solve most of his problems but here once again he found the language tough to master. In order to blend in, he needed full command over the language which was not an easy job. The issue of culture came in the later stages so the young man took a lot of time to mix with all this newness.
