I’ll Be Gone in the Dark

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark is a memoir by Michelle McNamara. She was a true crime author from the USA. The narration of the book is done by Gabra Zackman. The introduction part of the book is done by Gillian Flynn and the afterword by Patton Oswalt. The narration was quite amazing and the one that will please you a lot throughout the book.

A violent and mysterious predator for more than a decade committed as many as 50 sexual assaults in the region of northern California, before he headed south. In that location, he perpetrated 10 murders. Then he simply disappeared, dodging multiple police forces and some of the most skillful detectives in those areas as well.

After three long decades, a true crime journalist, Michelle McNamara was determined to find that psychopath killer whom she names ‘the Golden State Killer. Michelle explored multiple police records and interviewed several victims. She even embedded herself in various online communities that were as obsessed with that case as she was.

The story of I’ll Be Gone in the Dark is very interesting and the author wrote it in a very clear manner. This is an excellent true crime masterpiece that Michelle McNamara was writing at the time of her unfortunate, sudden death. She passed away in her sleep and couldn’t see the success and the great work that she had done in this book which quickly grabbed the attention of readers/ listeners far and wide. This book is loved for many reasons and one of them is the great, atmospheric snapshot that it provided of a specific moment in the history of America. Moreover, it is also a chilling account of a vicious criminal and all the wreckage that he left behind. This book became the basis of a very interesting HBO documentary series and it also became a bestseller in the New York Times.
