Harlem Shuffle

This is the story of a man who wants to run away from his past but the past keeps on coming back for him. Ray’s family is full of crooked people but he is not involved in that sort of thing. Since the day he married the girl of his choice, he has been living a good decent life. He has a furniture shop at the corner of the street and a nice place to live in.

His parents don’t think in the same way because they think that the house is nothing more than a piece of shit. However, these things don’t matter at all as long as life is going fine. Apparently, life was going fine but there were a few troubles that Ray wasn’t ready to talk to anyone about. He has been falling short of money for a very long time and his cousin Freddie is the only one who knows the truth.

So every now and then Freddie drops a ring or two at Ray’s doorstep which he sells to a jeweler near his house. This has been a helpful thing for Ray and on one occasion Freddie asks Ray to take part in a heist. Ray’s wife was expecting their second child so he thought that he would be able to get some money through this. The thing goes wrong and this puts Ray’s life in serious trouble.

He finally starts thinking that everything he has worked for previously is on the line. Zone One and The Nickel Boys (Winner 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) will give you a guess about this story. Colson Whitehead writes such stories all the time and fans like his version all the time. Like always it is narrated by Dion Graham who is a magician in his field.
