Anita Blake can do many things and one of those things is magic. She can stop evil spirits from coming to the real world and she can also bring the dead to life but not in the real sense. The one that she brings to life is not like an ordinary being as only the physical appearance is the same and the real personality of that being gets altered due to magic.

Tony Bennington does not believe in all of that because he thinks that Anita can perform that miracle that he needs in order to bring his life back on track. He has lost his wife quite recently and he wants Anita to bring his wife back from the grave.

Anita wants to convince Tony that it is not a good idea at all as her previous experience were not very good. The persistence of the man forces Anita to take on the case and she brings horror to life which becomes a problem for her more than anyone else. Laurell K. Hamilton is not ordinary by any means when it comes to the creation of this kind of story. The author is fully aware of the development of the plot all the time.

The plot is the one thing that he holds dear in all circumstances whether it is this book or others like Crimson Death and Guilty Pleasures. The way the story develops into one single thing is mesmerizing for all. Nothing goes out of control and there is no character or event which is not given proper attention. This story has become more classic due to the narration of Kimberly Alexis. Thus the credit goes to the author and narrator at the same time.
