Fallout

Fallout, the seventh book in the Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson, continues the adventures of the crew of the Flying Dutchman. This science-fiction audiobook is narrated by R.C. Bray and has a running time of almost 20 hours. The story picks up after the events of the previous book, Valkyrie, with the crew of the Flying Dutchman stranded in another galaxy, fighting for survival against a powerful alien race called the Ruhar. As the team attempts to find a way back home, they uncover more about the Ruhar’s plans and face new challenges.

The strength of the book lies in Alanson’s ability to create a diverse and likable cast of characters. The witty banter and comradery between characters, particularly between Joe and Skippy, are entertaining and engaging. The book also explores the personal growth of the characters, especially with regards to their relationships and leadership roles.

One of the highlights of the book is the world-building. The author has created a vast and detailed universe that is full of unique and interesting alien species, technology, and history. The reader is immersed in this world, learning about its intricacies and becoming invested in the characters’ journey. The action scenes in the book are well-written and intense. The space battles are thrilling and engaging, with Alanson doing an excellent job of describing the tactics and strategies involved in the battles. The author also does a great job of building tension and suspense throughout the book, making it difficult to put down.

The only minor downside of the book is that it is not very accessible for new readers. As the seventh book in the series, it heavily relies on previous events, and new readers may struggle to understand some of the references and character relationships. However, for fans of the series, this will not be an issue. Overall, Fallout is a strong addition to the Expeditionary Force series. It is an entertaining and action-packed audiobook with excellent characters and world-building. The book leaves readers eager for the next installment in the series.
