Having a dungeon is a real pleasure when there are so many enemies out there to eat you up. Being in a dungeon is a completely different thing and Cal is surely not enjoying this new state. Usually, the people who enter this magical world are in search of dungeons because the dungeons provide them the chance to grow in power.
Without a dungeon, an adventurer cannot survive because there are beasts and monsters that are looking for these adventurers and their powers are far more than any of the new adventures. These monsters and beasts can eat any new player within no time. So the dungeon is like a shelter or a protective layer that gives you a strong foundation to start a life in this magical world.
Cal has different issues i.e he is not looking for a dungeon rather he is the dungeon core which means that he has to grow an entire dungeon around him. A long time ago he was forced to take the form of a stone and was thrown into this world. He does not know the reason behind the deed but he is going to find out. Till then he has to survive and in order to survive and grow in power Cal must consume those who enter the dungeon created by him.
Certainly, no pauses were allowed in this novel and narrator Vikas Adam handled that perfectly. Dakota Krout is not a new name for fantasy fans because he has to Implode under his belt and then there is always Invent that one can talk about. The book has mind blowing secrets and the role of Cal changes with time which means that he has a long way to go in the series.
