Dragonflight

Pern is a planet that is considered unique as compared to the other planets in the world because here one can see dragons flying in the sky. Species of the dragons had gone extinct in different parts of the universe but in Pern, these mythical creatures still rule the sky along with their riders. Author Anne McCaffrey talked about the Threadfall in Dragonquest: Dragonriders of Pern and The White Dragon.

Here however the author gives such a hint at the start that we start thinking that perhaps the days of the Threadfall are now gone. If there would be no Threadfall then it means that the people of Pern don’t need the dragons anymore. Four centuries have passed now since the Threadfall took place in Pern. People have started thinking that it was an evil of the past and it might not return any more.

F’lar does not believe what the people of Pern think because he is sure that the Threadfall will take place very soon. The Red Star has been assumed as the cause of the Threadfall in the past and if that is the case then the start is coming near very soon.

F’lar just knows one thing i.e he and his bronze dragon must be ready when the time comes and the evil finally returns to the land once more. Dick Hill does go very loud in tone during narration when he wants to show the enthusiasm of the young hero. Still, the tone is digestible on all occasions because it makes the story appear colorful. The sight of the dragons is another source of attraction for this book.
