Ironical things happen in life sometimes and we as human beings have no answer for them. Here the son of a district attorney stands as the culprit and he wants to do everything in his grasp to save his son. Andy Barber had been a district attorney for more than twenty years and he surely had a successful career because of which the man is quite proud as well.
At home, things are perfectly poised for him as well. He has been blessed with a handsome son and his wife loves him more than anything in the world. The author of this story William Landay describes everything in a fine way in the initial chapters of this novel and then he makes Andy’s life go upside down in a single moment.
Andy is told that his son has been arrested because the police think that he is the one who has killed his fellow student. Though Jacob claims that he is innocent but the police and the rest of the people present at the spot were not willing to admit this fact. The clues went against Jacob as well so Andy decides to save his son on his own.
For this, the district attorney is ready to go to any limits because he cannot lose his son for a false case that is put against him. Grover Gardner’s narration is wonderful and it has also helped in heating things in the courtroom. This is another brilliant creation from the hands of the one who created The Strangler and Mission Flats. The courtroom is not the only place where the action happens in this story. Andy also realizes that he didn’t know everything about his son and wife. There were secrets that were hidden from him and digging those secrets would mean destroying the peace and love forever.
