Cast in Shadow

The story of a girl named Kaylin comes to the scene for the start of a series about certain strange creatures. The name of the city is Nightshade and it is presented as a dangerous city for innocent people especially for the kids. Kids of the town develop special marking on their skin after which they are taken by some mysterious power with no trace or chances of a return.

There was a time when Kaylin also developed that marking but she never left fighting those powers which were after her and has finally survived to the present day. But she is not an ordinary girl now as Khristine Hvam narrates about her with all her superpowers.

Being in the city of Elantra the girl has been given the chance to control her powers and also to earn a name for herself. All the time she has tried one thing i.e to forget what she has gone through in the past when she was young. Past comes to her again when the same incidents start once again in her city. It happened in The Emperor’s Wolves and Cast in Conflict too when the past got mixed with the present.

Here too the author brings that past back to Kaylin who never hoped to return to Nightshade once again but children are dying once again and the city needs her. She has a partner for some help in the case but she thinks she would have been better if she were alone. With no trust in her partner, the girl marches on for the mission which could heal old wounds of her youth present in her heart.
