The Delaney family used to be an ideal one in the whole society because the parents were good tennis players and it was their tennis court that was a sign of inspiration for many. Together Stan and Joy achieved a lot of success in their life and their four children observed the ideal relationship of their parents throughout their life. Though the children were good at tennis their father was of the view that none of them had the ability to become a champion but that was not something that was troubling for them. The children started their own professions and they succeeded in the thing as well.
Now after fifty years of married life, Stan and Joy sell their tennis academy because they think that it is time for them to relax. The two start living in their cozy home and stop playing the sport for a while. One day a stranger comes to their home and she asks for help. The girl was terribly wounded so they agree to help her.
In the morning something strange happens i.e the girl and Joy were nowhere to be found. Stan calls the police and his four children also come to the scene. The police suspect that Stan has to do something with his missing wife’s case and two of his children also start thinking in that manner.
Liane Moriarty divides the family into two groups at this stage in the novel. Big Little Lies and Truly Madly Guilty kind of theme tends to appear at this stage because there is suspicion resting on almost every family member, especially the husband. Caroline Lee has narrated such mystery books before so it was just a piece of cake for her.
