Written in Red is the first novel of series titled The Others. It is a fantasy title and is written by Anne Bishop. She has created a fantasy world that is inhabited by otherworldly creatures – vampires and shape-shifters on the top of that list. She has written other books that deserve to be considered, e.g. Daughter of the Blood and Vision in Silver.
Alexandra Harris has performed the narration of this book. She is out of this world as the voice of Meg. She has a lovely voice, pleasant and soothing. Her accent has caught some flack though, as she appears to give it a Southern touch. If the accent can be suppressed a bit, then it would be perfect for the role that she’s given.
What is a gift if it feels like a curse all the time? That is the question for Meg Corbyn, a blood prophet. She can see the future when her skin is cut. She’s kept captive by her Controller so that he can have complete access to her visions. As Meg escapes the barbarity, the only place she can hide is a business district run by the Others, at the Lakeside Courtyard.
Simon Wolfgard is initially reluctant to hire a stranger inquiring about the Human Liaison job. The shapeshifter senses that this individual is keeping a secret. He also sees that she doesn’t smell like human prey. He is nonetheless propelled to give this stranger the job. When things go south, he discovers that Meg is wanted by the government. Now, he must decide whether she is worth keeping amid all this trouble. Is he ready for a fight between the humans and the Others that will eventually follow?
