Henry Denton was the one who spent numerous years being abducted by the aliens periodically. Then he was given an ultimatum from the aliens. It was about the world ending in the next 144 days. All that Henry Denton could do in that situation was to push that gigantic red button. But, he wasn’t sure if he should do that or not. After all, life has always been tough for Henry. His mother was a struggling waitress who was held unruffled by a very reedy layer of cigarette smoke.
His brother on the other side was struggling as well as he was a jobless dropout. He knocked someone up. Moreover, Henry’s grandmother was losing herself slowly to Alzheimer’s. On top of all this, Henry was still dealing with and mourning the loss of his boyfriend who committed suicide last year.
The job of smearing the slate clean appeared to be a pretty good choice for him. But, as he was a scientist so evaluating the pros and cons was the first thing for him to do. We Are the Ants is a coming-of-age story. It dealt with dysfunctional families, bullying, Alzheimer’s, suicide, and gay relationships. It did a very good job in those particular areas and managed to keep the audience interested.
