The two slaves ran for their lives from one place to another and throughout their journey, the slave hunters were on their backs. The urgency can be felt in the voice of the narrator Bahni Turpin who wanted to make the correct picture of the situation in our mind. With Harlem Shuffle and The Nickel Boys (Winner 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) under his belt, the author has painted an accurate picture of the era. The novel really tells us the circumstances through which the slaves were going in those years.
