War on the land ended long ago when the previous ruling group was finally overthrown by the Tenets. The rulers known as the Augurs had supreme powers with the help of which they used to rule the land. Then in the deadly battle, their powers just failed to process and they lost heavily. Since then there is no sign of the Augurs left on the land but they were not the only group with powers.
There was also another group that was working under their supervision known as the Gift. That group was also blessed with powers but its powers were not equal to that of the Augurs. Thus when the Augurs fell this weaker group decided to kneel in front of the approaching enemy to save their life. Their lives were spared but they were later treated like slaves or prisoners of war by the new rulers.
The Gifted are now living the life under same circumstances for the last twenty years when author James Islington starts the story further. Rulers of the land don’t allow them to reach the higher ranks and they are still considered a threat. Michael Kramer starts narrating the life of a young boy in a grieved manner who has been suffering hate since his birth. Davian is one of the Gifted and that’s why the other class of people doesn’t like him. He was training in the academy among others like him when he realized that he was suddenly able to do something more.
The power which the Augurs enjoyed once was now in the hands of Davian and it was not good news for him. People who hated him now turn into his enemies because he is considered as a threat now.
