The Last Mile Audiobook
The Last Mile is a fiction novel. It is the second installment in Memory Man Series. This book is written by David Baldacci. He is an attorney by education but he chose to become a writer of legal thrillers and suspense novels. Memory Man is a very good example of his work. After that, you will like his performance in the Hour Game novel.
Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy narrated this novel together. Kyf Brewer was better than Orlagh, but still the former seemed to run out of voices for the different characters that this book has. Orlagh seemed to have just one monotonous voice. Melvin Mars, a convicted murderer was counting down the last few hours ahead of his execution. He was charged with the killing of his parents a couple of decades earlier. Then, he was granted an unexpected reprieve, after another man confessed to the same crime.
Amos Decker was a new hire in the special task force of the FBI. He took a keen interest in the case of Melvin after finding out some strange similarities with his own life. Both of them were extraordinary football players with promising career that was cut short due to an unfortunate tragedy. The families of both these men were murdered brutally. Furthermore, some other suspects confessed to the crime.
The confession made had the potential to make Melvin a free man, even if he was guilty or not. Who wanted to have Melvin out of prison and why does that have to happen now after all these years? As far as the story is concerned, The Last Mile is way better than the first book of the series, but it is the narration that failed to impress listeners.
