The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Audiobook
This book is not just a story rather it is an investigative report that Rebecca Skloot arranged for all of us. Almost sixty years ago there was a woman named Henrietta Lacks and the scientists of the world know her by the name HeLa. She was supposed to be immortal well that was something that was written in the reports or perhaps everything was made up by the scientists who wanted a specimen for their experimentation.
The woman was an African American and her past was linked to slavery so she didn’t know much about her rights. Her blood cells were taken for the creation of different medicines linked to the diseases like Polio and cancer. The vaccines that were created from her blood were really effective and that’s why the samples of her blood cells were sold worldwide at high prices.
Different labs also tried to form clones of HeLa and no one knows whether the experimentation was successful or not. However, the real tragedy which resulted after all of this was the fact that HeLa and her family got nothing from all of this. The woman never got her share while the labs were earning billions from her blood samples.
Now after her death, her daughter also says that the family does not possess the basic medical facilities till the current day. Also, HeLa’s daughter wants to know whether the scientists were successful in creating a close of her mother or not. Cassandra Campbell and Bahni Turpin have taken it above Shanghai Girls through their narration. This is a real story and it raises many questions for many people connected to the world of medicine.
