The Guardians is a suspenseful legal thriller story. It is written by John Grisham. You will have an excellent literary time with the audio version of his Sparring Partners novel. Another book recommended from the literary archives of John Grisham is The Whistler.
The audio narration of The Guardians is done by Michael Beck. This was a monotonous performance that wasn’t welcomed as such by the audience.
In Seabrook, a small town in Florida, there was a young lawyer living whose name was Keith Russo. He was shot dead while he was working late one night. The killer committed a perfect crime as no clues were left behind at the crime scene. There looked to be no one with a motive and even no witnesses were there as well. But the police very soon declared Quincy Miller as the prime suspect. He was a young Black man who was a former client of Russo.
Quincy was tried for the case and he got convicted. He was given a life sentence. He suffered a lot in prison and maintained that he was innocent. He remained in prison for 22 years and nobody ever listened to him for all those years. He had no lawyer. So in desperation, he wrote a letter to the Guardian Ministries. It was a small NGO that was run by Cullen Post who was a lawyer and as well as an Episcopal minister.
Cullen was known to travel far and wide in the country to fight different wrongful convictions. When it came to Quincy Miller, he got a lot more than what he bargained for. Keith Russo was murdered by ruthless, influential people. Those killed a lawyer 22 years ago and they would kill another without having any second thought.
John Grisham did a great job in writing some well-fleshed characters. Those will be the characters that everyone would love to hate. The storyline is pretty decent as well about social injustice and the value of human life.
