The Finisher

The Finisher is a dystopian, action & adventure novel. It is the opening title in the Vega Jane novel series. It is a new series by David Baldacci who is primarily known as an author of mystery thrillers. You will find Baldacci at the best of his writing skills in Long Shadows. Another novel that is close to his best work is Memory Man. The audio narration of The Finisher novel is done by Nicola Barber. She gave an acceptable performance but it was far from perfect.

The story in this novel started with the character of Vega Jane who was 14 years old and living in Wormwood village. Life there was quite brutish, nasty, and short. The villagers of the place were told that there was nothing at all outside of their village with the only exception of the Quag. It was a foul forest that was dominated from all sides by terrifying beasts. Nobody used to come or go there. Moreover, Wormwood had stayed in that manner for many generations. But things changed when Quentin Herms, a friend of Vega disappeared.

Quentin left Vega with a deep secret message which was hinting that there is a way out of their village, Wormwood and there is something really special on the other side of it. As Vega started to investigate the matter, she found that Wormwood was a village that was all built on many dangerous lies. Moreover, the powerful people were looking to kill for keeping things that way. Vega was soon on the path which would either lead her to the truth… or an early death.

The Finisher is an original and fantastic novel by Baldacci. Any negative reviews about the book anywhere are unfair as this book has an excellent storyline, superb execution, and fantastic characters.
