We all believe that Fairy Godmother comes from the heavens and she is given the duty to take care of the people on earth. Mercedes Lackey changes the concept here as the author turns the so-called Cinderella of the town into Fairy Godmother. Elena Klovis was living with her stepfamily and she wanted to get rid of them so she started searching for a different fate. Accidently the girl gets selected for the post of Fairy Godmother and instead of the receiver, she becomes the giver.
The job is hectic in the sense that she cannot enjoy her personal life because she has to take care of others all the time. More troublesome than anything else are the princes of different states that keep on making her life miserable. One of them makes Elena so crazy that she turns him into a donkey and brings him home with her. The punishment given to the prince was undeserved but the Fairy Godmother didn’t show mercy.
The presence of the prince in the form of a donkey started troubling Elena too. She thought that if she would keep him with her then the temptation will get stronger. Breaking the tradition can result in a big catastrophe not only for Elena but also for the entire town.
Gabra Zackman gets the chance to narrate a story that is less serious as compared to Joust and Alta. There are funny situations in the book which make us laugh on many occasions. The turning of Elena into the Fairy Godmother was hilarious and then the prince turning into a donkey was a superb comedy.
