Anya is a goddess who rules her life according to her own principles and the audience thinks that she is a free creature but that is incorrect. Apparently she is free but her strings are also in the hands of the gods who can force her to do anything. However as long as she is free she can enjoy all the physical pleasures of her life fully. She selects men for herself for physical pleasures but all these bonds in the past have been temporary. She has never been able to find the perfect match for herself with whom she can live through eternity. Gena Showalter after presenting such condition of the goddess introduces Lucien to her. Lucien is the second name of death i.e he is a warrior of first rank and no one has been able to stand against him.
Together the two form a nice bond between them and as their relationship was about to become permanent tragedy occurs. The gods in the underworld want Anya which means saying good bye to the free pleasurable life. But Anya and Lucien are not ready to depart in order to follow the orders of the gods. Mac Bellmore narrates two characters that are in for a terrible fight against gods. No one expected to see this magnitude in fight during The Darkest Night and The Evil Queen. Now it becomes the fight which we have never seen before and there are clear chances that Anya and Lucien are not winning but they will die trying. Also in the process there is a chance that they will kill some gods of the underworld too.
