The Conception of Terror: Tales Inspired by M. R. James – Volume 1

M.R. James is the highlight of the book but Jonathan Barnes, Mark Morris, and Stephen Gallagher have also played their role in this first volume. It is a kind of discussion that Robert Bathurst, Tom Burke, Alice Lowe, and Anna Maxwell have narrated together like a team. First, it is the story of Jo who rejects the paper which is sent to her and because of that hate, the student throws a curse at her. Jo is told that she has only two days to live and this completely destroys Edward’s peace of mind as well.

In the next horror story, it is once again a girl who is adopted by Mrs. Bunch and she comes to Aswarby House. Here Stephanie makes a friend named Ben who appreciates the environment of the place but Stephanie feels something strange at the place. The girl feels that someone is grabbing her from the chest and there is something that the ghost wants to tell her.

Then Ben also vanishes one day after which Stephanie thinks that she should look into the matter personally. Books like The Lake House and The Secret Keeper have single stories in them while this book is loaded with a lot so it should be preferred by any means.

The next book starts with the death of an old man who has sent a postcard to a young lad on which something is written in the Latin language. The boy wants to solve the mystery so he takes the help of his teacher Mika who happens to be an expert in the language. Together the two transform the mission into an epic one within no time.
