Ironically the city of Shadows gets a hero but she is a blind girl with no intentions to dictate terms. Oree happens to be a blind artist who has a kind heart and she just cannot say no when somebody comes to her for help. She gets the news that someone has been killing the godlings without any reason but she does not pay attention to it at all rather she remains busy with her work.
During these days, a stranger comes to Oree’s door and she feels that the man requires serious help. Showing pity towards the needy was something that came naturally to Oree but she didn’t know that the stranger she was welcomed into her home was linked to all the killings. Thus the blind girl gets connected to the case and this time she decides not to separate herself from the case.
N.K. Jemisin has constructed a character in this novel who is stronger than fate. Oree has no problem going against the will of gods or the fate that was chosen for her and the rest of the group around her. A daring girl goes on a tough mission in the story. The Obelisk Gate and The Stone Sky were also better than the expectations of the fans so a listener should never expect less from Jemisin’s books.
Casaundra Freeman’s narration is not less valuable in this book than the storyline. Strong narration is very important for books such as this one. Magic of the gods and the humans collide for a huge battle in the novel and there are conspiracies from both sides.
