You surely have to listen to the story when Death has it to tell you. It was the era of 1939 and the place was Nazi Germany. The country at that time was holding on to its breath. Death was never that much busier ever and was expected to be the same further down as well. Then came Liesel Meminger who was a foster girl who was living just outside of the city of Munich.
She was the one who scratched out some sort of a meager existence by stealing for herself when she came across something which she couldn’t resist –Those books. With all the support of her foster father who was an accordion player, she learned to read and she shared all of her stolen books with many of her neighbors. This was the case during the time of bombing raids and there was also a Jewish person living in her basement.
The Book Thief became an extraordinary bestseller at the top spot in New York Times. It will soon be a major motion picture and this novel for its great writing and characters is highly recommended.
