The story of this book is set in China in 1345. That was the time when China was under Mongol rule. Greatness for the ravenous peasants that belonged to Central Plains was something to be found in the stories only. When the eighth-born son of the Zhu family named Zhu Chongba was given a fortune of greatness then everyone there was mystified. They were in that state as to how it come to pass. On the other side, the chance of the nothingness there received by the capable and clever second daughter of the family was just as expected. [She Who Became the Sun audiobook]
Then a couple of orphan children were attacked by a bandit then it was Zhu who capitulated to despair and eventually died. The girl was quite frantic to drip from her very own fated death and she used the identity of her brother for a pass to a monastery as a novice young male. Zhu there learned that she was quite capable of doing everything it takes for staying completely hidden from her fate.
She Who Became the Sun is a real page-turner. Shelley Parker-Chan is an awesome storyteller. The LGBTQ+ element was also very beautifully portrayed by the author in this novel.
