Black Company is one of those bands that take care of everything once they are assigned a critical mission. They work under the control of the Lady who is evil to the core and her main motive is to destroy the White Rose gang of rebels who too have evil desires of their own. The two groups have been fighting for a very long time and till now no one is completely winning the game.
The Black Company in the previous episode saved a girl who just does not say anything. For this reason, they named it the mute girl and now they have discovered that she is the White Rose reborn. Having her with them is a negation to their mission but the gang thinks that they have a chance to correct themselves.
After all these years they might be able to walk on the path of light once again but the path is not welcoming them with open arms. The way is tough and before they start walking on it they might get killed because of the hurdles in their way. Glen Cook has shown good continuity in The Black Company, The White Rose, and this book.
Somehow we get the feeling that the Black Company will select the right thing in the end but first they are worried about their survival. Marc Vietor as usual narrates in a heavy voice and induces a sense of urgency in the minds of the listeners. Going to the next part becomes due after ending this part. The story arouses curiosity in our minds about the fate of the Black Company and this forces us to go to the next level.
