Mark Lawrence is not a new name in the world of fantasy as the author has produced awesome stuff over the years for the young and the adults. Still many of the fans and regular listeners of Mark’s stories are of the view that his debut novel was the best he ever produced till the present day. Red Sister and The Girl and the Stars have their significance but there is nothing like this i.e the tale of a boy who was just nine years of age when his family was killed.
Moreover, the enemy was so cruel that it forced him to watch the whole thing with his own eyes. Thus Prince Jorg still remembers how his mother and brother died in front of his eyes. Their dead bodies still haunt the young teenager at night. The enemy wanted to get rid of the little prince too but he remained successful in escaping the claws of the enemy. After escaping from the palace he took refuge in the band of thugs who taught him the way to survive in a cruel world.
Although he was worried about his life on most occasions he just didn’t forget the injustice that was done to his family at the hands of the enemy. So a few years later when the prince thinks that he is capable to take back the throne, he finally returns to the land of his ancestors. When he returns to the palace he is astonished to witness one thing he wasn’t expecting i.e magic. Jorg was unaware of the magical powers that were holding the palace and then he finally comes to know the truth.
From a kid’s point of view James Clamp’s narration is perfect for this book because the voice is not very heavy and here the major character was a mere teenager that needed a soft voice.
