Matthew Rhys is selected for the narration of this book about Richard Burton. This was the right thing to do because only Rhys can narrate the character of Burton to perfection. There are other narrators as well that would have been glad to take the task but they don’t have the specialized pitch which is crafted for such kind of stuff. Burton is the kind of star who is known all over the world for his fantastic achievements.
Mark Jenkins has tried to give us an insight into the personal life of Burton through this book. The author uses the word notorious for the life of Burton at many places in the story because there have been certain scandals linked to the life of this celebrity since the beginning. His family was not linked to the world of media thus rising was never easy but Burton had the talent and a crafty mind to enter and rise high at a rapid pace.
In the beginning, Burton developed a relationship with Elizabeth Taylor and the couple was all over the news for a long time. Then the relationship ended in a tragedy after which Burton had issues of alcoholism. Thus Burton was the kind of celebrity who saw the two extremes very closely.
After the ending of this book, the listeners should go for The Path Made Clear in order to make their minds positive once again because there are lot of negative feelings that the listener will experience here. Just take it as the life story of an actor and don’t try to add these things to your own life.
