The Pandora’s Star starts a new science fiction and fantasy series with an engrossing tale and characters. The title of the series is Commonwealth Saga. It is a product of Peter F. Hamilton as its writer. He is a British writer and he is known for his space opera work. It was just in the year 2004 when his 10 novels were published, more than two million copies were sold worldwide. It is definitely a great achievement of the writer and endorses his amazing literary skills. It also asks science fiction lovers to try his The Saints of Salvation and the Salvation Lost novels.
The narration of Pandora’s Star is done by John Lee. It was a below average performance as the narrator had insignificant inflection. The accent was not easy to comprehend and the pacing struggled to some extent as well.
The novel is set in the year 2380. A sphere of stars, the Intersolar Commonwealth is believed to be some 400 light years in its diameter. Within it, there are 600 plus worlds. All these worlds are interconnected by a web of tunnels which are the wormholes actually. If we look at the far most edge of the Intrsolar Commonwealth, it was Dudley Bose who discovered something impossible. There was a star some 1000 light years away and it soon vanishes. It doesn’t go to the supernova. It wasn’t known to collapse within the black hole. It is something that just disappears.
The story of the novel is quite jolting and the author presented it quite well. It might be a little long read but you will like it, if you have good time in hand. The narration however is a bit disappointing that may distract followers of the audiobook.
