This was the first installment of the series created by Piers Anthony. Zane gets a complete introduction in this part and along with it, the listener gets the idea of the Pale Horse. The man was nothing professional and personally, so he decided to commit suicide. When he was ready to shoot himself he saw death approaching him and in fear, he shot at the one who was coming for his life.
Resultantly death was killed on the spot and that starts a new game for Zane. Fate in the form of a woman comes to Zane and tells him that he should now take care of the office of Death because being its killer he is now the newly appointed Death. Zane is also given the demo of the Pale Horse that can turn into anything.
All man has to do know is to make death easier for other creatures. Kaftan a magician also wanted to meet Death at that time so the magician just commits suicide and comes to the office of Death. The prime focus of Kaftan was actually to introduce his daughter Luna to Zane. Luna’s life was facing a lot of threats and if she becomes the girlfriend of Death then taking her life would become impossible.
George Guidall narrates in a more impressive way than Wielding a Red Sword and Split Infinity. Zane i.e Death gets confused after the middle because he falls in love thus he is unable to fulfill his duty in the right way. Taking Luna’s life is something which he cannot do and this means that he is not following the orders that are given to him by the higher authority.
