Mentats of Dune is the second chapter in Schools of Dune. It is the second part of Dune Saga. This science fiction and fantasy book is written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Brian is an American author who is the son of a renowned author, Frank Herbert. Kevin is also an American author of science fiction novels. He is known for writing spin-off novels for Star Wars. Dune: The Heir of Caladan is a fantastic chapter from the authorsβ duo. Another exciting novel from them is Dune: House Atreides: House Trilogy, Book 1.
The audio narration of the book is done by Scott Brick. He made this novel so much special with his gripping and engaging voice. The thinking machines were defeated but the struggle for the future of humanity continued. Gilbertus Albans discovered the Mentat School.
It was a place where humans could learn about the best techniques related to the thinking machines. But, Gilbertus preferred to walk over a very uneasy line in between his compromises and convictions. This was needed to survive the Butlerian fanatics which was led by Manford Toronto and Anari Idaho, his Swordmaster.
Mother Superior Raquella tried hard to rebuild the Sisterhood School with the help of her most ambitious and talented student. She was Valya Harkonnen. She also had another goal and that was to take revenge on Vorian Atreides. He was the legendary hero of Jihad whom she accused of the downfall of her family.
This is just an OK book with a decent story but not what you expect from the caliber of Herbert. The last chapter of the series ended at a complete cliffhanger, but nothing seems to be resolved in this one.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this book, as well as others from the series. Thank you for having these uploaded πππ
