J.R. Ward for a very long time has been depicting the love bond or relationship between human and vampires. It is not like the old stories where vampires only show lusty behavior, the human males and females are also portrayed as equally violent creatures. Vishous in Lover Unbound, The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5 got attracted by the doctor and she too was actually showing an appeal for him. This part is about the same family i.e it is about Vishous twin sister who happens to be equally aggressive in her stance. Problem is that Payne is not free like her brother; she was caged by her mother at an early age. Payne has an acute desire to see the free life of the cities and for this purpose she finally breaks off from the locked room. Instead of seeing the hustle and bustle of life the female vampire receives a lethal would just like her brother.
She gets Manuel Manello as a rescuer who makes her crazy even when she is lying on the hospital bed and is down with injuries. Dark Lover type issues are discussed in this novel where the two characters want to be together but there is a difference of specie which hinders their way. They are so desperate that they want to break all the borders but there are some barriers which cannot be crossed. Jim Frangione narrates such feelings and passion of love excellently now because he has become an expert of such novels. Most of the novels of the series are narrated by Jim so he knows the needs in narration better than anyone else.
