Childhood memories haunt Vishous because he has seen things as a child which a lot of people cannot bear. He survived because he is not the member of the society which gets scared at once. Vishous is the immortal vampire who wants to slay every member of the Lessening Society that killed his father. His father got killed in front of his eyes after which he hasn’t shown mercy to any human and thinks of them as his enemy.
Love, affection and mercy are not in the code books of this vampire who has totally gone mad in revenge. During these combats he too gets a deadly wound just like his father and he thinks that his end is also near. At this point he comes into the caring arms of Dr. Jane Whitcomb. She treats him well and looks after him until his wound is completely healed.
Her care ignites in him the passion of love which he though didn’t exist in his body. J. R. Ward once again puts love in the dark heart of a vampire and that too for an ordinary human being. Presence of Dr. Jane makes Vishous forget all about his vengeance and all he desires is to be in her sweet company for eternity.
If we look toward Dark Lover and A Warm Heart in Winter the passion and excitement was not very different. Jim Frangione narrates the familiar tones of love, lust and passion to live with the beloved. Along with these sentiments there is bloodshed and the devouring of the prey. For teenage followers these novels are like a gift for the winter vacation.
