Well vampires don’t love human beings and we all know that but for a change J.R. Ward started this series which has been liked a lot by the fans. Vampires’ lust made them dig for human females but when they come close the feeling of obsession and possession suddenly change into love which cannot be defined. They start protecting those females from their own race and thus deny accepting their original instincts. This time it is the other way round which Jim Frangione narrates. Lover Eternal, The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 2 and Dark Lover were about male domination this time it is a female vampire who fell in love with a human male. Butch a human cop wanted to get more into the vampire world because he was attracted towards Marissa. Also he wanted to fight on the side of the Brotherhood against the enemies they call Lessers.
As the ex-cop went deeper and deeper he came to know more about these races and then finally he got the deadly wound which ended his life. The end of his life gives him a chance he was looking for during his lifetime i.e a place close to Marissa. The Brotherhood asks the female vampire to bring Butch back to life and though it is not easy to complete the ritual but she agrees because she too feels love for him after his death. Butch after coming to life once again is not the same person but his love for the female vampire remains unchanged. He becomes more ruthless and becomes a great fighter and an appealing lover who steals Marissa’s heart at once.
