The way Amy A. Bartol comes up with the story makes the impact a hundred times better. Even the most ordinary scenes get highlighted by the way they are told by the author and narrated by Emily Woo Zeller. The first chapter opens when Evie is on the large ship and the ship is moving towards a strange land.
Though the girl has seen the place before there are things in the world that have the same sting no matter how many times you look at it. The fear penetrates Evie’s heart and she just cannot keep herself calm from the inside. She has been hiding in the rooms beneath and now when the place is near she comes out in the open and watches the whole landscape while the rain drops are washing her face.
No face is visible but when you look at the sight closely or with full concentration there appear to be faces of dangerous Faeries who are waiting for the ship. Behind every rock, there is something spooky that can make your mind charged up with fear. One thing is for sure the situation is highly alarming like Traitor Born and Iniquity and there is no way the listener’s mind will have a rest until the story is complete.
Not a big war but the fear in the air makes the thing one among the masterpiece. Progress of the story is slow but it was obvious because the author wanted to carve the whole landscape in our mind first. After telling about the landscape the rest of the thing was easy for the author to convey.
