This is the book in which the FBI agent Nick Buchanan appears for the first time. This is a pretty long series so skipping the first part of the series is not the right idea. Julie Garwood has not added a lot of background about Nick’s character in the first part still it is always good to start the series from the first part. This is a way of knowing the primary characters for the first time.
Father Thomas Madden was just listening to the regular confessions when his ears heard something quite deadly and for a moment he wasn’t able to believe what he had just read. Someone made a confession that he was going to kill Thomas’ sister Laurant in the coming days. Thomas became surprised because they didn’t have any kind of enmity with anyone.
So he called Nick for the solution to the problem because Thomas knew that if someone can solve such kind of a case then it is Nick. Nick starts protecting Laurant right away and the two get really close during the case. The love scenes are aptly narrated by Tanya Eby.
Nick and Laurant show their awareness of the problem too and we cannot say that they diverted their attention from the main thing just for a little while. The maker of The Bride and The Secret has shown real perfection in the first installment of this long series. There is love in the story but the suspense and mystery remain the primary thing in the book. Getting to the killer becomes their primary objective of Nick and this is the only way he can save his love.
