Leaders control the empires and without proper leaders, a nation cannot thrive at all. Mark Lawrence talks about such a nation which has not been able to select a proper leader for itself and that’s why it is facing destruction. Many years have passed and the people of the Broken Empire have not been able to vote for a single person who could sit on the throne and unite the empire as one.
Jorg is one of those who want to become the emperor because he thinks that it is his just right. But the voting mechanism is out of his control and it is the will of the people that hinders his way. Still, he does not give up and starts thinking about other ways that can be opted to achieve his goal.
While preparing for the throne Jorg gets a special voice from the narrator James Clamp. James i.e the narrator talks about everything with authority to show that Jorg wants the throne. Jorg starts collecting ancient weapons for the fulfillment of his purpose and then he realizes that the votes are not the only thing standing in his way.
The Dead King is also there standing as a wall between Jorg and his successful life. Prince of Thorns and Red Sister never took a long time in the starting of the real mission. In those two novels, the mission just started after a few chapters but here the author has established a special base for the action to take place. Even the main enemy does not come on the scene at once. The Dead King is confronted after the first portion of the story and from there the use of weapons comes into play.
