“Elminster” begins with a lot of electrifying talk about magic and the world of sorcerers. Elminster used to live in a world that was loaded with a lot of warriors who used to fight on trivial things on all occasions. There were dragons too who brought further havoc on the innocent but Elminster didn’t have any issue with all those things as he was a mere shepherd boy.
Being an ordinary lad, he didn’t indulge in all the wars and fights to go on around him rather he preferred peace at the end of the day. Then one day a mage lord comes to their town and he brings horror to the town which no one has ever witnessed in nightmares even. The whole world goes upside down and Elminster has no other choice but to stand against this invasion to protect the land he lives on.
To become a mage he has to learn One True Spell i.e a girl named Mystra who can bestow magical powers with one single kiss. Ed Greenwood has added magic, drama, and love at the same time in the story. A nice amalgam is formed which is narrated by John Pruden.
Elminster in Myth Drannor and The Temptation of Elminster are other parts of this series and depict the journey of a boy who becomes a very strong mage in the process of protecting his land. He wasn’t ready for all of this, however, when the time comes he proves to be the best of the lot against his accursed enemies. The magic which is depicted in this story is not of the new kind but it is excellently described.
