Dawn is the opening installment in the Xenogenesis novel series. It is a science fiction and fantasy novel. The book is written by Octavia E. Butler. She was an American writer of science fiction and fantasy novels. She received multiple Hugo and Nebula awards for her different books. She became the first writer of the science fiction genre in 1995 who received the MacArthur Fellowship. There is hardly any novel from the author which you wouldn’t like. Still, her Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents are two of the highly recommended ones.
The narration of this novel is done by Aldrich Barrett. It was a nice performance done with quite a reasonable character distinction. The pacing of the narration was appropriately aligned as well.
The world was completely devastated due to the nuclear war and humanity was almost at the edge of extinction. The aliens finally made contact with Earth. They rescued those people whom they could reach out to, and they the kept majority of the survivors in suspended animation. Then started a very slow and steady process of rehabilitating earth. When Lilith was awakened then she discovered that she was the chosen one for the revival of her fellow humans. She had to prepare them all to meet with the extremely terrifying aliens. The need was also to train them well so that they could survive on the new wilderness of the planet.
When it comes to the stories of the post-apocalyptic alien invasion, Dawn is a very unusual tale. Invasion here might not be the right word even. You need to check out this novel for its apparent appeal. It will be an interesting, strange, and somewhat uncomfortable experience as well.
