Cursor’s Fury is an epic fantasy book written by Jim Butcher. It is the third book in the series – Codex Alera. This novel however takes place two years after the events of the preceding book. Don’t forget to check out other works by the author, e.g. Peace Talks and Death Masks.
Kate Reading has performed the narration of this series. She is a gifted narrator that changes her voice for every character as they age in their world. This is not easy to pull off. However, Kate has seemingly done the job.
The novel starts as the High Lord of Kalare has announced a rebellion against Gaius Sextus. He is doing this in his lust for power. The First Lord, however, must join backs with an improbable ally, High Lord of Aquitaine. Simultaneously, young Tavi joins a newly assembled legion. It is under an assumed name since the enemies of the realm are in vast numbers.
Note that the First Lord of Alera doesn’t get any younger. He has no male heirs or even female ones. It’s no shocker that everyone wants his position and some have the ambition to challenge him even. He has to neutralize the most imminent danger, i.e. High Lord Kalare. The First Lord forces him to attack early in hopes that the former would not be prepared. Has he severely underestimated his foe’s power? Has he put the realm in mortal danger? He will have to give it all to salvage an unwinnable scenario. As all of this happens, treachery and treason rear their ugly head in our protagonists’ direction. Hence, Tavi will find himself leading a poorly equipped, untrained legion. This will be the only thing standing between the war-torn realm and the Canim horde.
