Will Laurence and his dragon have proved that anything can be done in this world only thing needed is the courage to do it. Impossible tasks have been fulfilled by both of them as they have defeated the Napoleon raiders much time and though the British soldiers think that Will and his dragon cannot be trusted they have still managed to work for them. Temeraire is not the only dragon who is working for Will, rather he has Iskierka and Kulingile on his side too.
These three dragons have forged a strong team together and they are continuously increasing their powers which means that they are bound to have an upper hand in the war. Now they are going to Brazil where the next task is waiting for them. On their way they get attacked out of nowhere and are injured in a big was because they weren’t ready for it. Landing in the land of Inca was not the right idea as the place seemed to be full of enemies but still, the team was short of options.
When they landed to get themselves geared up for the mission once again, an old enemy approached them and one thing is certain i.e they have to use their full strength to get out of this one alive. Naomi Novik shows that the heroes are in a bad condition in this one and it is all done to test their true potential.
Simon Vance does not give a dejected voice to the heroes anywhere in the novel because the heroes were physically broken not psychologically. The Last Graduate and A Deadly Education are not equal in brutality as compared to this book. This is one of the finest, Naomi has ever created in his fantasy tales over the years.
