Leo i.e the Master of the City might have lost his control over the area long ago if he had not been blessed by an enforcer in the form of Jane Yellowrock. Jane is the shape-shifting skinwalker everyone is so much afraid of. She can hunt humans and vampires who dare to cross the line so she is like a lethal weapon for Leo. Whenever Leo senses any kind of danger to his rule, he calls Jane for the job and she gets the job done within no time.
In the previous parts, the author Faith Hunter described Jane as a real hero for the people of New Orleans. She has been able to keep a nice balance between good and evil. The ancient European vampires have decided to increase their territory on this occasion so they want to end Leo’s rule.
This is not possible as long as Jane is there but she has another problem at hand. Revenant vampires have been seen on the city border which is a strange thing because they were part of history for a very long time. This means only one thing i.e someone is planning quite big. Skinwalker and Junkyard War were not small missions at all, however, this is a war that we are talking about at this level.
Khristine Hvam has to give voice to a lot of bloodthirsty characters in this portion of the series. The narrator has managed a clear voice which is quite good to see. Every character in the tale has been dealt with in a balanced way whether he was on Jane’s side or not.
