Brandi Carlile has written the story of her own life here and she tells us how she used to face tragedies in her past. Her childhood and adulthood were full of tragedies but she does not tell us about all those events in a sad way because she has never lost hope in her life. In her early childhood, the family was constantly changing homes because they didn’t have a proper place to live.
They approximately shifted to fourteen different houses when Brandi was just a little child. Instead of getting sad about the situation, the author started enjoying the change as it was providing her with something to think about. Then the illness brought harm to her, physically and psychologically. Adulthood was not so much fun especially when she was gay by nature. The people linked to the church were not allowing any such thing to happen in those days so she found no place in society at that time.
Brandi started exploring her life on her own and finally, as an adult, she thought that she had found the right track for herself. She tells her about her feelings when she performed with a famous band for the first time. The world of art provided her with so much to think of that she forgot all the worries of the past. Still, she was of the view that her past helped her to develop psychologically.
This book is apparently not like The Antidote or any other book of the kind because it is just a memoir and usually memoirs don’t have messages. However, Brandi’s life has a message for all those who are yet to find a purpose in life or who are confused with their state in life.
